Try to work out a payment plan that is more affordable for you, and stick to it!
- You can eliminate credit card debts by consolidating them. This may take the form of a second mortgage or a home equity line of credit. Remember that you are using your home as collateral, so you need to be able to realistically make the payments or you could lose your home. Beware of taking out a high interest loan that you cannot afford to make payments on.
- You could contact a credit counseling organization to eliminate credit card debts. These are professionals and if you are struggling to make head or tail of your debts, they can set up a plan to help you make ends meet.
- You could enroll in a DMP: Debt Management plan. This is worked out with a credit counseling organization. You would deposit money each month to pay off your outstanding debts.
- Many see this option as a last resort because, like everything in life, this is not a free service even if it promises to be. Debt Negotiation Programs pitch their services as good alternative to bankruptcy, however, they may not eliminate credit card debts and with high monthly payments you may be forced to build up further credit card debt.
- Bankruptcy should be when all else fails and you simply cannot eliminate credit card debt. This of course will clear your debt but will have terrible repercussions on your credit which will linger and effect you for years. Additionally the government have toughened up the laws which may not make you eligible to claim bankruptcy.
